How to play original Super Mario Brothers Classic?

I got Super Mario Brothers 2 Game Boy Advance game. It has Super Mario 2 and the original Super Mario Classic. I can play the Mario 2 pretty good. When I go to play the original Mario game all it shows is Mario in the middle of pipes with spiky critters and fire balls coming. They do have one of those “pow” things where I can make all the spiky critters lay on their backs. How in the world do I beat that board? I have not clue.

Note how when you jump up and hit a platform it goes up where you hit it. Well you are suppose to do that under the turtles and then go to them and “kick them” (although al you do is walk next to them and they go flying.) POW is for emergency situations.
You will have to press the jump button(first check which is the one) again and again, it can jump high and you will cross the line.
